Mission – Wednesday afternoon (May 23 @ 4:40PM) Mission RCMP received a 9-1-1 from the owner of a daycare in the 33000-block of Hawthorne Avenue, Mission. The caller reported that a 23-month-old girl was missing from the daycare, and the caller estimated it had been approximately 10 minutes since the little girl was last seen.

Mission RCMP members quickly attended the scene, and began a search of the daycare and property, as well as the neighbouring properties. In checking the neighbouring properties, the little girl was found unresponsive in a large underground swimming pool by one of the RCMP members.

The member immediately jumped into the pool and retrieved the little girl, calling for assistance of the other members at the location. BC Ambulance Service was immediately called, and responded with their Advance Life Support and Air Ambulance service.

Mission RCMP members immediately began CPR including the use of a portable defibrillator carried in the police car, until BC Ambulance Service arrived and they took over resuscitation efforts. BC Ambulance service transported the little girl with police escort to Mission Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Mission RCMP Serious Crimes Unit and the BC Coroners Office are investigating.  The license for the daycare has been suspended.
