Chilliwack Lake – Smoke was reported near Paulsen Road, not far from Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park.

The reports came around 5PM on Thursday afternoon.

A firefighting helicopter was dispatched along with crews from Chilliwack River Valley firefighters .

Linda Koskinen took to Facebook to say that forestry crews worked on the fire that was started by an unattended campfire across the river from where she lives. For a time, her husband was trying to dowse the flames with buckets of water.

The forestry crews worked from the other side till dark and said they would be back by this morning. My husband Bill and a Ron, neighbour have been out there to monitor it a few times throughout the night. There are still flames this morning and as of 7am no crews were back yet. But they have been called so we are expecting that they will show up soon. My husband Bill, had to cross the Chilliwack river yesterday when he was told about smoke back there. It was too large for him by the time he got there to really do any good. But he was determined and just running on adrenaline.

Fire Crews are now on scene across the river and they will stay on scene till it’s out.
