Chiefs Beat Warriors In OT – One Win Away From Final

West Kelowna – Jordan Kawaguchi was the hero, scoring at the 59 second mark of the first overtime period to give the Chiefs a 4-3 road win over the West Kelowna Warriors Wednesday.

The Chiefs now need just one more win to advance to the best of seven league finals and will get their first chance to get that win when they host the Warriors Sunday at 5pm.

It was all Chilliwack in the first period. Goals by Kohen Olischefski and Taylor Allan 61 seconds midway through the period put the Chiefs up by two. Rylan Bechtel’s power play goal with just over three minutes left made it 3-0 Chilliwack after twenty minutes.

West Kelowna scored the only goal of the middle stanza when Jake Lebrun scored on the power play with just 27 seconds left.

In the third the Warriors got goals a pair of goals from Kylar Hope, the second one with just 13 seconds left to send the game to extra time.

Aidan Pelino turned away 30 shots to earn his tenth win of the playoffs.

The Chiefs get their first chance to advance to the BCHL best of seven league final when they host the West Kelowna Warriors Sunday at Prospera Centre. Game time is 5pm.

The first two teams in this round to earn three victories will advance to the league final. Chilliwack and Nanaimo each have two wins, followed by West Kelowna with one win.

West Kelowna is in Nanaimo Friday.

Should West Kelowna win that game, each of the three remaining teams would have two wins. That means whichever team wins Sunday in Chilliwack would advance to the league final with home ice advantage. Whichever team loses that game would play in Nanaimo on Tuesday with the winner being the second team to advance to the final.

Should Nanaimo win Friday they would advance to the league final and have home ice advantage. That means West Kelowna would have to defeat Chilliwack Sunday in Chilliwack then again Tuesday in West Kelowna keep Chilliwack from advancing.

In person sales will begin Thursday morning at 9am at the Prospera Centre Box Office.

Season ticket holders will have until 2pm Saturday April 9th to secure their seats for Sunday’s game.

The Chiefs office will have extended hours on Friday 9am to 7pm and will open on Saturday from 10am to 2pm for ticket sales.

The Prospera Centre Box Office will open at 12pm on Sunday for ticket sales.
