Chilliwack – Cathy Gallagher approached the Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra for a concert idea. She is a pianist who played professionally at the Harrison Copper Room and around the world as well and is performing a concert tour with Transylvanian Violinist Cristian Herki and I will let her detail her reasons for this tour in her own words.
The concert is really uplifting music from Eastern Europe, Romania, Hungary and more. Guests will be performing violin and piano duos from this repertoire and also performing with the orchestra. Christian is a third generation professional violinist, his grandfather and father were Professors of Violin in Romania and he is highly qualified as well. His solo with the Met orchestra is de Sarasate’s Zigunerwiesen which is one of the best known violin solo pieces. It is also called the Gypsy Airs and will showcase his ability.
The Gallagher family will be on stage to help out. Patrick Gallagher actor from Glee, Night in the Museum, Master and Commander and many other TV and Movies with Margaret Gallagher CBC radio host with her program Hot Air (a jazz show on Saturday evenings) will be our MC’s and their father Dr. Joseph Gallagher, Professor of Linguistics will be presenting a reading from Dylan Thomas.
There will also a private, by invitation only, concert at Stonehurst Manor on May 14th.
The music is to go towards financing the concert. You would be able to meet both musicians at the reception and hear a private concert. There are only 50 tickets for this and they are $25.00 each. It is a fundraiser for the orchestra. The program is “Jewels of Romania”.
