Chilliwack Senior Dies in Westview Avenue Fire

Chilliwack, BC – RCMP and Chilliwack Fire Department are investigating the cause of a house fire which took the life of an elderly woman.

On Wednesday night, (October 14, 2015 at approximately 7:30 p.m.) RCMP received a report of a structure fire in the 45300 block of Westview Avenue. General Duty officers and BC Ambulance arrived at the address as Chilliwack Fire Department fought a fire engulfing the two storey house.

Firefighters located a 74 year old woman in the residence suffering from life threatening injuries. The victim was transported to hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators from UFVRD Serious Crime Unit and Chilliwack Fire Department have examined the scene as they pursue their investigation.

“Police do not suspect the fire was targeted or linked to other fires we have had in the area. BC Coroners Service is engaged with the investigation,” said Cpl. Mike Rail.
