Fraser Valley – The University of the Fraser Valley athletic department is pleased to announce a partnership with Flyers Volleyball Club as it expands its Junior Cascades brand.
The partnership will see Flyers Volleyball – an Abbotsford-based girls club established by current UFV Cascades women’s volleyball assistant coach Brian Ward – renamed the Junior Cascades, and run its programming out of UFV’s Envision Financial Athletic Centre. The club will be connected to the Cascades varsity women’s program, with UFV players and coaches working with young athletes to help build the sport in the community.
“Junior Cascades volleyball is a natural extension of our Junior Cascades brand,” said Steve Tuckwood, UFV director of athletics and campus recreation. “We know there is great club volleyball in the Fraser Valley and we are excited to be involved.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the UFV Cascades to help develop a culture of true coaching and athletic excellence,” Ward said. “We are also excited to have the opportunity to give back and support the Cascades for their future success.”
The Junior Cascades brand was launched in 2006 as a girls basketball club helmed by UFV women’s basketball head coach Al Tuchscherer. The ongoing expansion will also feature Junior Cascades initiatives in men’s volleyball, basketball, soccer, strength and conditioning, and summer camps.
Tryouts for Junior Cascades girls teams will be held in November, with practice and competition beginning in January. Further programming details will be posted at GoCascades.ca/JuniorCascades as they become available.
