Fraser Valley – Three local RCMP officers will be among riders cycling across the Fraser Valley in the 2019 Cops for Cancer Tour De Valley.
Held in conjunction with regional Cops for Cancer tours throughout the province, law enforcement and emergency service personnel ride to raise funds for pediatric cancer research and caring support programs.
This year the Upper Fraser Regional Detachment will be represented by Chilliwack Community Policing Office (CPO) Constables Alain Castonguay and Dan Tielmann, riding together with Hope CPO officer Constable Naomi Versteeg.
Growing up in New Brunswick participating in sports Alain’s athletic ability will be put to the test during the Tour De Valley.
“I have always wanted to help kids and the experience is heartwarming,” says Constable Castonquay. “Cops for cancer allows me to support these remarkable kids.”
Touched in her own life with the passing of her father from cancer and a cancer survivor herself, Naomi now rides on behalf of children.
“There are three amazing kids fighting cancer who came into my life over the past year, one has sadly succumbed to the disease,” says Constable Naomi Versteeg. “These kids are my inspiration to ride the Tour De Valley.”
An officer who lost his father as well as a close friend and fellow RCMP officer to cancer, Dan rides for a cure.
“After watching those close me fight their valiant battle against cancer I am inspired to do my part to help fight Pediatric cancer,” says Constable Tielmann. “My hope is that one day, no parent will have to see their child battle cancer.”
Planned for September 19 – 27, 2019 the Cops for Cancer Tour De Valley will challenge participants on an 800-kilometre journey from Tsawwassen to Boston Bar.
