If Harrison Can Have A Fountain In A Lagoon, So Can Abbotsford – At Mill Lake

Abbotsford – In November of 2020 and after heated debate, the Village of Harrison approved tax dollars for a fountain in Harrison Lagoon. This would help aerate the lagoon. This at taxpayer expense of over $100K.

The FVN Harrison story is here.

Abbotsford will have a similar fountain for Mill Lake and the same focus. To keep the water moving and alleviate the always consistent goose poop problem.

Abbotsford won’t be paid for by tax dollars. The agenda is here and starts at Page 63.

The executive meeting of Council on Monday noted in the agenda:

In 2019, the City established a Mill Lake Park Reserve Fund and received a commitment of a $1,000,000 donation from an anonymous donor for improvements to Mill Lake Park. The first capital improvement using these funds was authorized by Council to be an aeration fountain to improve the water quality of the lake, and in turn the surrounding ecosystem, and to provide a beautiful aesthetic addition to the City’s premier park.

The installation of a suitable fountain including the power requirements is estimated at approximately $200,000. The proposed fountain will spray lake water 27 metres into the air and have LED lighting to allow colours to be changed as desired.

The project will now go out for RFP or Request for Proposals.
