Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Fraser Valley – central including Chilliwack
  • Fraser Valley – east including Hope
  • Fraser Valley – west including Abbotsford

Strong winds are expected to continue this evening.

An intense Pacific cold front moved across the south coast today. Strong southerly winds over many areas this morning have shifted to strong west or northwest this afternoon.

Winds gusts up to 80 km/h are possible through this evening. Power outages are possible at these wind speeds.

Additionally, the unstable conditions behind the cold front will continue to bring scattered heavy showers with the risk of thunderstorms and hail early this evening.

Winds will ease and skies will clear later tonight as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt
  • Highway 3 – Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass

Meanwhile, light snow over Highway 3 – Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass will intensify tonight as the system passes the region. Total snow accumulations up to 20 cm can be expected by tomorrow morning.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
