Fraser Health Declares COVID-19 Outbreaks at Timothy Christian School in Chilliwack

Chilliwack – Fraser Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Timothy Christian School in Chilliwack on February 13, 2021, after 35 COVID-19-positive cases were identified among staff and students.

Timothy Christian School, an independent school, voluntarily closed on February 4, 2021. Students at the school transitioned to remote learning due to staff needing to isolate because they had COVID-19 or were in close contact with people who had COVID-19, such as colleagues and household contacts. Fraser Health Public Health is working with the school on a plan to return to in-school instruction, which is expected to be as early as February 22, 2021.

In a school environment, if a student or teacher receives a confirmed positive COVID-19 test result, Fraser Health Public Health follows a rigorous protocol:

  • Contact tracing is initiated to determine how the individual was infected and who they were in close contact with in order to advise for self-monitoring or isolation.
  • Public Health staff works closely with the school throughout the case and contact management process to maintain close communication with the school community.
