First Active Storm Cycle of the Fall Season – Rainfall Warning into Thursday

Fraser Valley – Right on cue. .. and let the continuing 2020 jokes fly. Rainfall warning overnight into Thursday .

4:13 PM PDT Wednesday 23 September 2020
Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Fraser Valley – central including Chilliwack
  • Fraser Valley – east including Hope
  • Fraser Valley – west including Abbotsford

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Periods of heavy rainfall will continue over Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley late this afternoon and tonight. This moisture-laden system will deliver 40-70 mm of rain by Thursday morning. Embedded thunderstorms will bring additional localized amounts and rainfall rates of up to 20-30 mm/hr tonight.

Rainfall rates will lessen on Thursday but persistent moist, onshore flow will cause showers, heavy at times, to continue Thursday. The heaviest rain amounts are expected near the mountains and eastern sections of the Fraser Valley.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
