Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service – Prevention Week October 6 – 12

Abbotsford – – AbbotsfordFire Rescue Service is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) – the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years – for this year’s campaign to remind people that ‘Not all heroes wear capes’.

This year’s campaign, ‘Not all Heroes Wear Capes” highlights the following steps people can take to help quickly and safely escape a fire:

·        Create a home escape plan

·        Practice that plan at least twice a year

In support of the campaign this year, the Abbotsford Fire/Rescue Service is hosting a series of open houses to help educate people about fire safety and give them the opportunity to liaise with their community fire fighters.

Open houses are on October 9 from 6 – 8 pm at Fire Hall 3 on Fraser Highway, Fire Hall 4 on Wallace Street, Fire Hall 5 on Merryfield Avenue, Fire Hall 6 on West Railway Street and Fire Hall 7 on Old Clayburn Road. Open houses are a free family event.

Don Beer, Fire Chief, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Services : ““Fire Prevention Week in Abbotsford is an opportunity for our community to reduce the risk of fires occurring in their homes by making a home escape plan and actually practicing it. We need to show how people can make a potentially life-saving difference for their loved ones.”
