Rainbow Crosswalk Petition Delivered To Chilliwack Mayor (VIDEO)

Chilliwack – The group Rainbow Crosswalk for Chilliwack, who have been pressing the City of Chilliwack as well as businesses and naysayers to support a LGBTQ crosswalk on Mill Street at Wellington, went once step further.

A petition by the group was presented to Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove who accepted the binder of signatures and the written reasons why Chilliwack should endorse such a project.

While there have been critics on social media who are against the idea, it is picking up steam.

On the Rainbow Facebook page, businesses owner and activist Amber Price noted: Today is a big day; we are presenting our Petition Binder for a Rainbow Crosswalk to our venerable Mayor Popove. We wanted to give everyone the chance to witness its beauty.

It is 2019, and I believe that it is Chilliwack’s time to celebrate its diversity, show its acceptance and inclusion and install a Rainbow Crosswalk at Mill Street & Wellington Avenue in our Historic Downtown.

There are so many people to thank for the creation of this document. Respect and love to those who have walked this path for many years in our community without recognition, respect or celebration. You are loved, you matter, and we are stronger together.

Chilliwack will host its first Pride event with a BBQ on Saturday August 24 at the Chilliwack Neighbourhood Learning Centre at CSS.
