Public Consultation On Seismic Upgrades To Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School – March 13

Abbotsford – Abbotsford Board of Education will hold a public consultation on proposed seismic upgrades for Abbotsford Traditional Secondary school (ATSS).

“The Board of Education is required to submit a Project Definition Report to the Ministry of Education, supported by a reasonable business case for proposed seismic upgrades to Abbotsford Traditional Secondary,” said Stan Petersen, Chair for the Abbotsford Board of Education. “But before any decisions can be made, we have not only a duty, but a desire, to offer a public consultation process to ensure the voices of our school families and community are heard and collected.”

The following information will be presented to the community:

  • Scope of work for proposed Seismic Upgrades
  • Student Demographic information

The Board has worked for several years developing options for the seismic mitigation project at ATSS. One of the significant issues with this project has been developing the scope of work that deals with significant building envelope and deferred maintenance issues that exist at the school.

Feedback from the Ministry was received in February 2018, requesting the school district reconsider the options submitted in light of costs and the declining enrolment at the school. The district has recently completed revised project cost estimates and reviewed the demographic information for the schools and surrounding catchments.

A public information meeting is being planned for 7:00 pm on March 13, 2019 at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary school to review the seismic options.
