Demolition Prep Ahead Of New Paramount Seniors Project In Chilliwack (VIDEO)

Chilliwack – After lunch on Monday, demolition crews approached the back end of the now empty Dragon Dynasty restaurant and started the demolition. This will be the final major demo to be done in preparation for the eventual construction of the new Paramount Seniors Project in Downtown Chilliwack. Next to this is the old Ruth and Naiomi’s Garden and what was the old Paramount Theatre. They have since been dismantled.

The project was announced last August with final zoning approved by City Council in September 2019.

Chilliwack Community Services is building a mixed-use facility that will consist of 44 housing units for seniors with rents affordable in the range of low and moderate income levels, and 20,000 sq. ft of office space.

Adding additional affordable housing supply for seniors is a priority for the City of Chilliwack. The City’s 2016 Homelessness Action Plan called for an increase in the supply of affordable housing across the housing continuum to meet community needs, including housing for low income seniors.

Demolition crews told FVN that the front or Yale Road side of the old restaurant should come down on Wednesday. When crews went into the building, they were surprised to find how clean it was, although dishes and cutlery were still in the restaurant and beds were still in the upstairs living accommodations.

The same crews were working on the abatement of the old Royal Bank across the street (dealing with asbestos) and their work with Algra brothers still continue on that part of the downtown reconstruction and transformation.
