Chilliwack RCMP Arrest Two Known Thieves

Chilliwack –  Stolen property was recovered by police and a local man is charged following a RCMP investigation.

The investigation stemmed from a report received by RCMP on December 8, 2018 of a smash and grab theft from a vehicle parked in the 45000-block of Menholm Road.  Evidence gathered by the Chilliwack Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) quickly linked the theft to a local prolific offender who police arrested on December 11.  A porcelain tool was seized by officers during the arrest.

“Thieves often employ a porcelain spark plug attached to a string to break windows out of vehicles,” says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD. “As CRU officers continued to pursue leads an address was identified.”

On December 12, CRU supported by the Chilliwack Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) executed a search warrant at an address in the 46000-block of Bole Avenue.  A 41- year- old- man was arrested and later released by police.

Property and identification associated to the theft from December 8th were seized by officers during the search.

Branden Paul Tanner, 20, of Chilliwack is charged with theft over $5000, four counts of fraud, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of possession of break-in instrument, possession of a forged document, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of and breach of undertaking.  Mr. Tanner remains in custody pending a court date in December.

“RCMP investigators will be submitting all circumstances of the investigation in a report to Crown Counsel for their assessment of charges against the 41 year old man,” says Rail.
