No Fed Appeal On Trans Mountain Ruling- Plans To Restart Indigenous Consultations

Ottawa – With the already tight deadline of 22 weeks to re-present the Trans Mountain Pipeline proposal to the NEB National Energy Board, comes the announcement from Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi on the First Nations consultations.

That was part of the main criticism when the initial Trans Mountain proposal was handed the major setback and sent to the drawing board.

Sohi gave the NEB until the end of February to report back on the environmental review, but is not putting a deadline on the Indigenous consultations.

Sohl stated : “Let me be clear—we are not starting over. We are building on the relationships we have, the information we’ve gathered, & the consultations done to date.” Sohl didn’t want to put a timeline on that part of the discussion because he felt that the feds “need to get it right”.
