Pump Gas. Plant Trees. It’s That Simple (VIDEO)

New Westminster – Wednesday was National Tree Day and marked the launch of RENEW to offset car emissions.

Drivers help plant trees by pumping gas at Vancouver area 7-Eleven stores. The RENEW program automatically calculates a vehicle’s estimated tailpipe emissions and invests in certified carbon reduction projects. The projects include planting trees, solar power generation, and landfill gas capture, resulting in up to 30% reduced emissions.

The program is the first of its kind in Canada. Vancouver area 7-Eleven’s are piloting the program in hope that it will be rolled out elsewhere in the future.

The best part about RENEW is customers don’t have to do anything differently; they just pump gas.

RENEW has partnered with Tree Canada, a national non-profit organization addressing environmental issues, and will be working on volunteer events throughout the year.

This video is from the recent RENEW launch in Sacremento, California.

RENEW™ is only available in the lower mainland and no where else in Canada. That includes seventeen 7-Elevens in Maple Ridge, Langley and Surrey. Tree Canada and the BC Chamber of Commerce helped launch the green program with a tree sapling giveaway, ribbon cutting, and inspiring statements about municipalities, non-profits and businesses working together for the betterment of the environment. This program invests in carbon reduction projects, such as tree planting, solar power generation, landfill gas capture, resulting in up to 30% reduced emissions.
