Chilliwack – Relative unknown Meghan Reid is the latest to file her paperwork for the October 20 Municipal Election. She is running for Chilliwack School Trustee. She is in the process of setting up a GoFundMe page to pay for campaign expenses.
She is a working mom and her husband is a Commanding Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard. Reid was active in the Watson Elementary PAC and currently a member of the Chilliwack Giants Minor Football Association acting as coach, trainer, and manager while also serving on the executive board.
On her Facebook page, she made no mention of the controversial topic of SOGI(Sexual Orientation Gender Identity), but she does want to see an increase in bussing options as well as more schools.
Her statement: Hi everyone! It is official, I filed my paperwork today to run for school trustee. If you live in Chilliwack, won’t you please like my page and share it, talk about it and spread the word! In the next few weeks, we will probably be setting up a GoFundMe as I am only legally able to donate $1200 to my own campaign and it is going to take a lot more than that to bring about change in this town.
I want to be the voice for parents, a partner for educators, and an advocate for every child in Chilliwack.
Every parent I speak to wants to see a parent elected to the board. They want someone who knows the frustrations and safety issues experienced by parents in our school parking lots. They want a voice to speak on their behalf about the bussing nightmare our children are experiencing.
I am interested in connecting with the teachers in the classroom to better find ways to help them succeed. A board trustee can not know what is going on if they never visit the classroom. I seek to advocate for funding from the province for new schools, more busses and more Education Assistants, things that we so desperately need.
