Sonny Damato In The Running For Mayor Of Harrison Hot Springs

Harrison – Sonny Demato is in the running for Mayor of Harrison Hot Springs. His platform is primarily an environmental stance which he has made clear on his Facebook page. Back in July, he posted to his Facebook page, this open letter where is spoke bluntly about his frustration with Harrison Council. In question was the chemical spraying of pesticides and insecticides.

It reads in part:

Spending tax payer’s money unwisely, approving of badly planned projects, or screwing up the building of roads, or slapping unnecessary tax burdens on the community is nothing when you compare it to a spiteful attack on the public’s health and safety. You bring shame on this community; you are all a big disappointment to what is good in life.

I say SHAME ON YOU folks of no value, each and every one of you who rebutted the Bylaw No. 948, which protected this community from the use of deadly, harmful cancer causing chemicals.

You are now allowing the use of scary deadly chemicals to be sprayed indiscriminately, everywhere, especially on these new big development projects, which I think is the real reason for the removing of this bylaw.

Under your administration and with your blessing, even the corporation of Harrison is spraying these chemicals all around us now. Mss McDonald denied that the village is spraying any chemicals when I know, that you have contracted a company to do just that.

This is a direct attack on our health and well being and that of our kids, pets, visitors and all who use our parks and public land. This is a dangerous practice, and needs to stop right away for the sake of everyone. Once sprayed these chemicals spread in the air and remain in the soil for a long time. They are picked up on kids hands and mouths, peoples clothes, pets paws, etc, until the chemical then percolates down to the shallow water table. The only winner in these situations is the chemical company that sell these poisons for pure greed and profits.

Municipal Election Day is October 20.
