RCMP Arrest Suspect After Crash

Chilliwack/Abbotsford – A Chilliwack man is facing criminal charges after being arrested by the RCMP at an automobile collision site.

On Tuesday morning (9AM July 17)   Chilliwack RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen from Abbotsford. After the driver allegedly failed to stop for the Chilliwack RCMP the vehicle was located crashed off Prest Road near the Trans-Canada Highway by officers who took one person into custody.

Michael Joseph Hasell, 30, of Chilliwack is charged with theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, and flight from a peace officer. Mr. Hasell remains in custody pending a court date in August.

Fortunately no one was injured in the crash, says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD. The Chilliwack RCMP work in close partnership with neighbouring police agencies to protect communities from multi-jurisdictional law breakers.
