Burnaby/Chilliwack/Surrey – This week, the NEB National Energy Board hearings for the Kinder Morgan – Trans Mountain Pipeline rolled through Chilliwack and next week, onto Burnaby.
The Burnaby hearing info is here.
Previous and current concern, especially for Chilliwack, included protection of the Chilliwack Aquifer, BC Hydro right of way and construction issues through parks and neighborhoods.
The NEB has also been able to finesse its way legally to prevent the City of Burnaby to delay construction permits.
The National Energy Board will set up a process to resolve future permitting issues between Kinder Morgan Canada and provincial and municipal authorities on the Trans Mountain expansion project.
That process could take three to five weeks to reach a decision on future permitting disputes. The Federal and Alberta governments agree with the process and want a fairly bumpless ride for the permits to go through.
Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan has stated “the Federal Government may have approved the pipeline, but they haven’t approved the route.”
Corrigan and the City have doubled down their efforts for their argument, by releasing a 22 minute video on Youtube, outlining their argument.
The video features Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan, the city’s director of corporate services Dipak Dattani, and economist Robyn Allan.
