UFV Men’s Soccer – Signing Two Prospects – Surrey, Abbotsford

MSOC: Cascades sign Coastal FC teammates Rangi, Minhas

University of the Fraser Valley men’s soccer head coach Tom Lowndes continues to build his roster, signing a pair of midfielders from Coastal FC.

Charandeep Rangi (Surrey, B.C.) and Parman Minhas (Abbotsford, B.C.) are teammates with the Surrey-based club’s U18 squad, and they’ll be eligible to suit up for the Cascades this fall.

Rangi is an alum of the B.C. provincial team and won a silver medal with Team B.C. at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games. He plans to study business at UFV.

“He’s a good box-to-box midfielder, strong in the tackle, with good distribution skills and very technical,” Cascades head coach Tom Lowndes said of Rangi. “I think he’ll adjust well to the pace of Canada West, and I’m excited to see him join the program.”

“I chose UFV because of their prestigious soccer program and because of its student life which I definitely see myself thriving in,” Rangi said. “Being both mentally and physically challenged is important to me, and this is a perfect fit for me to experience that . . . My challenge at UFV will be to make my maximum efforts on and off the pitch to take the team to nationals and bring back gold.”

Parman Minhas

5’9” winger, Abbotsford, B.C.

Hometown recruit Minhas brings great speed and terrific passing ability to the pitch. He plans to pursue a criminology degree at UFV.

“He’s an attacking winger who looks to take people on and causes problems for a lot of defenders,” Lowndes said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how he transitions to the university game and our style of play.”

“It’s close to home, and the criminology program is really good,” Minhas said, reflecting on why he chose to sign with the Cascades. “I know a lot of guys on the team so it’ll be easy to bond with them, and I like Tom a lot as a coach. I want to help the team host a playoff game next season and go to nationals as well.”
