Honouring The Women Killed In The 1989 Montreal Massacre

Chilliwack – The University of the Fraser Valley along with the Ann Davis Transition Society held an annual vigil honouring the women gunned down in the senseless 1989 L’ecole Polytechnique Montreal Massacre. Marc Lapine had an issue with “feminists” and other women’s issues, and plotted the attack that saw the shooting of 28 people, killing 14 women. Lapine would take his own life.

Patti MacAhonic with Ann Davis read some very sobering statistics. Every day, 230+ assaults are a result of domestic violence, mainly towards women. The majority are indigenous. Every four days, domestic violence results in a homicide in Canada.

Dr. Mark Evered of UFV lit the candles during this vigil where some 50+ people showed up with roses to mark the occasion and the reading of the names of the victims.

Members of the Chilliwack Chiefs were there, representing the team and paying tribute to the women.
