Chilliwack Empress Homeless Eviction

Chilliwack –  Shortly after 11 AM Wednesday at the Empress Lane Homeless Camp in Chilliwack, City By Law enforcement crews along with Griffin Security were helping to dismantle the homeless camp which for some, was actually a quasi-protest for homeless rights.

City by law officials told FVN that the squatters have a number of options including the designated parks where they can stay over night provided they pack up in the morning. Salvation Army has offered an olive branch to the campers as well.

There was talk behind the scene of either Sto:lo or Skway First Nation setting aside a piece of property for the squatters, but no one on site could say what happened with those talks or if anything will come from that.

By Law Officers also told FVN that for the most part, the take down and removal of garbage and such was peaceful although there was one person, appearing very disturbed, who allegedly got in the face of one of the members of Griffin Security although they did not approach FVN’s reporter.
