Charges In Chilliwack Stolen Coins Case

Chilliwack, BC: A Chilliwack man remains in custody after being arrested by police for possession of stolen property.

John Evan Wear, 34, is scheduled to appear in court later this month to face charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Break and Enter, and Occupant of a Vehicle Knowing it was Taken without Owners Consent after being arrested by RCMP.

The charges stem from a police investigation initiated on November 30, when at approximately 5:30 a.m. RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a business in the 51300 block of Yale Road.

An employee told the investigator a show case containing coins had been stolen from inside of the business overnight.

As General Duty officers supported by General Investigation Support Team and the Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Section gathered evidence from the crime scene, a stolen pickup truck was recovered by police in the 9400 block of Cook Street.

Early November 30th an alert employee of a company associated to the victim’s business called police to report a suspicious man at their counter attempting to refund coins.

Officers quickly arrived at that location and took the suspect into custody.

Evidence gathered by officers during the arrest and police investigation linked Wear to the earlier break and enter and the stolen vehicle.

Police remind everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be suspicious in nature to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 FREE (TIPS).
