Victoria (VanCity Buzz) – BC Ferries announced today that they are cutting vehicle fares in half from Monday, November 16 until Saturday, December 19. It will apply on Monday through Thursday and Saturday sailings for South Coast routes.
For North Coast routes, which includes Port Hardy to Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii and Alliford Bay to Skidegate, the discounts till start November 15 and go until December 20.
The promotion will apply to all vehicle types, including cars, motorcycles, SUVs, trucks, vans, and RV’s – although for recreational vehicles, the discount only applies for the first 20 feet of the vehicle length.
The idea is to gauge passenger response to discounts for off-peak sailing times.
“As we progress with our Fare Flexibility and Digital Experience Initiative, set to roll out in 2017, we are gaining valuable information on shifting our pricing structure to offer savings based on time of day travel, a model commonly used in the transportation and travel industries,” said BC Ferries CEO Mike Corrigan in a statement.
A passenger promotion was offered back in September and parts of October, and they found it increased foot traffic volumes as well as reduced congestion for both foot and vehicle passengers when travelling in off-peak times.
BC Ferries is recommending you make reservations, as sailings are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
