Chiefs Drop First Of Two Weekend Series With Langley

Langley – The Chilliwack Chiefs early season road woes continued Friday night as they dropped a 6-4 decision to the Langley Rivermen.

The Chiefs (3-3-1-1) have earned just one point in four games away from Prospera Centre this season, that coming in a 4-4 tie in Salmon Arm.

The Rivermen (4-2-0-0) struck for a pair of goals early in this one, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Justin Szeto and Matthew Graham before the game was six minutes old.

That was the end of Chiefs goaltender Matteo Esposito’s night as he was replaced by Aidan Pelino.

Chilliwack got within one on Ryan Roseboom’s fourth goal of the season but a goal by Zac Masson gave the home team a 3-1 lead after twenty minutes.

The Chiefs played their best hockey in this one during the middle frame. Goals by Dennis Cholowski (1) and Vimal Sukumaran (8) were the only goals, sending the game to the final period tied at three.

It was all Langley in the third. Goals by Max Kaufman, Will Campion on a two man advantage and Szeto’s second of the night into an empty net put the Rivermen up 6-3.

A late power play goal by Chiefs defenseman Mark Esposito (2) rounded out the scoring.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Prospera Centre in Chillwack. Game time is 7pm.
