Chilliwack BC – Chilliwack Votes has popped its head out on social media. Originally, this concept as Valley Votes was to get people involved in last years Municipal Elections (turnout was a pathetic 21%).
The hope is that the voters can create better numbers come October 19, but don’t hold your breath. Recent numbers suggest that 30% of younger voters wont vote, because they are too lazy to get off their butts and go to a polling station. They just want to do it on their smart phone.
So far, technology has not come up with a secure way to vote on line.
Part of their media release states: In addition to our candidate profiles, our first two Q&A were posted along with the first portion of our educational ‘Did You Know’ component. Not included in the launch was fixed dates for the debates; however, we are continuing to work with partners in the communities of Chilliwack and Hope to see five debates are organized and fully attended by candidates.
Chilliwack Votes main spokesperson is no stranger to the community, it’s Chilliwack City Councilor Sam Waddington.
