Abby PD Arrest Car Thief/Parolee In Dealership Lot

Abbotsford, BC – Early Tuesday Morning ( May 26, 2015 at 12:25 am) an Abbotsford Patrol officer heard the sound of an engine inside a car dealership compound at South Fraser Way and Garden Street. Once at that compound, the officer observed a suspect male driving a Pontiac Firefly and colliding with unoccupied parked vehicles. The APD officer entered the lot to engage the suspect and called for other members to assist. The driver of the vehicle continued to crash into parked cars in an apparent desperate attempt to escape. He also drove at the APD officer, narrowly missing him. The suspect was ultimately arrested when multiple officers arrived and pulled him out of the vehicle.

A 31 year old parolee is facing Dangerous Driving, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property, Mischief and Possession of Break in Instrument charges. The suspect’s parole was suspended and he was returned to a correctional institution. He has a criminal history that includes Theft of Auto, Fraud, Possession of Stolen Property and Uttering Death Threats.

In total, eight vehicles were damaged. Fortunately neither the suspect nor any APD officers were seriously injured as a result of this extremely dangerous incident.
